Election Information

Alsann’s next election is a federal election (and Flinders by-election) on 4 November 2023. The election will run until 11 November and all Alsanians are encouraged to vote for their federal candidate of choice. It was announced on October 6 by the Alsane Elections Office in an AlsannGov post.

Candidates

Two candidates are standing for the seats of the Federal Council. Fan Breadfold, standing member for Southwater, is up for re-election based on the Breadfoldian Principles, describing the fair rights of Alsanians to free speech and freedom of religion, and to create laws which are secular and scientific in nature. He also pledges to recognise Israel as ‘occupied Palestine’. He has provided no opinion of referenda questions.

Kalan Cameron del Kersika, currently Officer-General, has decided to stand for election to fill the remaining seat awaiting further interest in the seat. He has stated he has to political platform to stand on and will remain unaffiliated whilst in office. He does offer an opinion on the referendum, saying he will vote yes to all and chooses the orange flag option.

Toby Syers is the sole candidate standing for the seat of Flinders. An Alsanian since mid-2023, he has shown significant interest in government participation but has not offered public statements on his policy or his achievements.

Referendum & Polling

As with all Alsane elections, a referendum section will be included, alongside a new polling section.

There will be six referendum questions in the federal election. The first will ask if regulated political parties should be permitted in Alsann. The second asks if the Officer-General should be given powers to appoint Federal Council members and division chiefs.

Options provided for the flag question.

The third question asks to choose between the current flag & crest design or one of two variants of a new design. The fourth then asks if further designs should be revised to match the choice. The fifth question also asks if the blue wren and bacon-and-egg plant should be adopted as national symbols due to their symbolism and distribution. Finally, the sixth question asks if a convention should be made to create constitutional codes.

There is a new polling section, a non-required series of questions designed to gauge public opinion. The first poll asks if Alsann should use approval, preferential or Hare-Clark voting in its elections. The second asks if Alsann should consider principality to reduce military involvement in governing. The final few questions ask about growing Alsann’s population, devoting resources to citizen engagement and personal involvement in Alsann.

Election

Approval voting will once again be used, where you may select as many candidates as you see fit and where each selection is worth 1 vote. The candidates with the highest number of votes is declared the victor. However, the accompanying polling section will ask about alternate electoral options.

We encourage anyone to run in these elections as all you need is to apply below, providing basic information, and occasionally attend meetings of the Federal Council. If you want, you may choose to create a campaign and you may choose to become involved in politics. The application form may be found below.
