Today, Alsann opened nominations for candidates in the 2023 federal elections. The election, scheduled for November 4, will be Alsann’s first since the 2022 federal election in December of that year, given the regional elections this year were cancelled.
It is expected those already in federal seats will choose to contest the yearly election, as well as any others wishing to serve in a non-regional seat. The election will be monitored by the Officer-General’s office as an impartial witness.
The referendum details were also announced, with 6 questions. The first asks if political parties should be legalised as currently parties are not permitted in the Alsane political structure. The second question asks if the Officer-General may be given emergency powers. The third and fourth pertain to a new national flag and crest.
The fifth referendum question asks about the current fauna and flora symbols (whistling kite and bluegrass lily) with the blue wren and bacon-and-egg plant, given the latter’s greater importance, relevance and distribution to Alsann. The final question asks if a constitutional convention should be formed.
The Officer-General provided assent for the election to go on November 4 provided enough candidates apply. Prospective candidates may apply to the role through the form below or on the Elections in Alsann page.
